Kathmandu. According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture, the successive Israeli attacks have destroyed 46,479 hectares of farmland, or 22 percent of the country’s total arable area.

Most of the damage was concentrated in Lebanon’s main agricultural regions in the south and Nabatayeh provinces, where 44,297 hectares of land were affected, compared with 2,181 hectares in other areas, the ministry said.

Fruit and olive trees, greenhouses, and small and medium-sized farms have been the worst affected. Of the 15,025 farmers in the affected areas, 76.6 per cent have been displaced. Experts warn that such a large displacement will increase the continuity of agricultural production and food security risks.

The ministry has announced a response plan focused on direct support of farmers. This includes animal husbandry protection, ensuring food supply chains, market support, strengthening price monitoring, and coordinating with relevant authorities to continuously evaluate needs.

In addition, in emergency measures, 1,512 farmers have been assisted, nearly 2,000 families have been sheltered, and 820 beehives have been evacuated in collaboration with the Lebanese military.
