Ramesh Lekhak produced before court

. KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader and former home minister Ramesh Lekhak has been produced before the Kathmandu District Court on Tuesday.

The writer, who was arrested on Saturday on the charge of suppressing the Genji agitation on September 23 and 24, was produced before the court today.

The probe commission formed under the leadership of Gauri Bahadur Karki has recommended action against the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the then Home Minister Lekhak and others in connection with the Zenji movement.

76 people were killed in the Genji movement. More than 2400 protesters were seriously injured in the incident. Similarly, the buildings of Singha Durbar, Parliament House, Supreme Court, President’s House, police office, business establishments and private buildings were also vandalized and torched.

The first cabinet meeting of the Balendra Shah-led government has decided to implement the report of the probe commission immediately. Accordingly, police have arrested the writer from his residence at Katunje, Bhaktapur.
