Corruption case filed against principal for embezzling student scholarships

Jumla. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case of misappropriation of scholarships against three persons, including Narendra Bahadur Mahat, principal of Ganesh Secondary School in Tatopani rural municipality-1 of Jumla.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against Til Prasad Bhattarai, chairman of the school management committee and accounts assistant for embezzling Rs 145,350 scholarships received by the school in the fiscal year 2079/80 BS.

It is learnt that the Principal had sent the scholarship amount of Rs 1,000 to 83 girls from class 1 to 5 and Rs 65,350 to 44 girls from class 6 to 8 on April 4, 2080.

According to the CIAA, it has been proved that the scholarship amount received by the school was not distributed to the concerned girl students and the defendants had prepared another false return of the scholarship on April 4, 2080 and the scholarship was distributed on April 4, 2080 in collusion with each other.

According to CIAA Spokesperson Suresh Neupane, a charge sheet has been filed at the Special Court, Kathmandu on Monday demanding imprisonment and fine as per the sub-section (1) of Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059.
