Energy Minister Shrestha forms Good Governance Unit to monitor and evaluate employees’ performance

Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, has formed a Good Governance Unit with an objective of making the ministry’s performance more efficient, transparent and result-oriented.

The unit was established as per the Good Governance (Management and Operation) Act-2064 BS and related regulations and the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal. The unit will carry out regular monitoring and evaluation of the performance of the employees working in the ministry and its subordinate bodies.

Joint Secretary of Administration Division will be the coordinator of the newly formed unit. Likewise, joint secretaries of Programmes, Budget and Monitoring, Water Resources, Energy, Development Assistance and Provincial Coordination, Water and Weather, and Law and Decision Enforcement Division are the members of the committee. The under-secretary of the Information and Public Relations Section will take charge of the member-secretary of the unit.

The unit will monitor whether the tasks determined by the Ministry under the delivery-based governance system have not been completed within the stipulated time frame, whether the responsible officials have fulfilled their responsibilities effectively and the status of implementation of performance indicators.

In addition, it will evaluate the progress of the employees, adherence to legal deadlines, and the utilization of government resources.

The Ministry has expressed confidence that the unit will help improve working style, increase accountability and promote good governance.
