. Sri Lanka is set to launch a six-month programme by providing free tourist visas to people holding passports from 39 countries. Government officials said that the rules related to this will be presented to the Parliament after the approval of the Cabinet.

The effort was approved at the 2025 July 2025 cabinet meeting to support the revival and growth of the tourism sector. Under this program, free tourist visas will be issued to eligible tourists, said Nalinda Jayatisa, spokesperson of the Council of Ministers.

According to the provisions of the Immigration and Immigration Act, the law department has prepared draft rules for the scheme. The rules are scheduled to be tabled in Parliament for approval.
