Remittances rise by 37.7 per cent in first eight months

Kathmandu. The remittance inflow has increased significantly in the first eight months of the current fiscal year. According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, the remittance inflow has increased by 37.7 percent in the first six months of March. Remittances during the period reached Rs 1,449.65 billion. The remittance inflow had grown by 9.5 per cent in the same period of the last fiscal year.

In the month of March alone, Rs 188.64 billion has been remitted. In the same month of the previous year, Rs. 151.19 billion had been received. The remittance inflow has also improved in US dollar terms. During this period, remittances increased by 31 percent to Rs 10.15 billion. Last year, the growth rate was 7.1 percent.

Similarly, net secondary income (transfer) during the review period stood at Rs. 1.591.66 billion compared to Rs. 1149.30 billion in the same period of the previous year.

However, the number of Nepalis taking new work permit for foreign employment has decreased. The number of new labour permit applicants has reached 273,536 while the number of people taking re-labour permit has reached 251,985.
