. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has started internal discussions on the draft of electricity policy.

He stressed on the need of incorporating the overall development of energy sector, structural and institutional reforms, energy utilization, environment protection among others.

On the occasion, Minister Shrestha directed the subordinate bodies to forward the power policy in a way to make the overall facts and statistics of the energy sector clear while bringing the electricity policy. He underscored the need to carry out extensive consultations with stakeholders on the policy draft with a long-term vision.

Minister Shrestha stressed on the need of the electricity policy to address critical issues such as quality energy supply, increase in internal consumption, energy mixing, impact of climate change, loss and damage and carbon trade.

He said that the electricity policy is the guideline while formulating the law and the policy should be brought in such a way that it is ready to face the possible challenges in the future.

Minister Shrestha stressed that the electricity policy should be prepared in a way to incorporate the concept of capital mobilization that has long-term impact on the development of hydropower and clean energy.

Minister Shrestha stressed that the electricity policy should pay attention to increase participation of private sector and ensure profit in energy sector as the role of private sector is also important.
