Kathmandu. Even on public holidays, the goods can be sent abroad through the post office and the goods imported from abroad can be released.

Though the Goshwara Post Office Dilli Bazaar has been providing its services on public holidays in the past, it has been difficult to clear customs clearance due to non-operation of customs office and banks. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology had also expressed concern after complaints were received that the service was being affected due to lack of inter-agency coordination. Following the directive of Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr Bikram Timilsina, the Department of Postal Services in coordination with the Department of Customs has started the process to provide service on public holidays as well.

“The Goshwara Post Office provides services on public holidays for postal goods or for international courier service. However, there was a problem in clearance as the branch of Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office was not open on public holidays,” said Manmaya Bhattarai Pangeni, director general of the Department of Postal Services. ”

Similarly, Director General of the Department of Customs, Shyam Prasad Bhandari, said that the Department of Customs would be able to operate its customs office on public holidays as well. Similarly, the bank branches in the area are also preparing to continue their services for revenue payment. Efforts are being made to keep the branches of Rastriya Banijya Bank open on public holidays as well.

More than 19,200 parcels, parcels, small packets, general letters, registry letters, book posts and other goods had arrived from the Goshwara Postal Office, Dilli Bazaar. Similarly, the number of such items exported is around 11,700. The office has collected around Rs 29.04 million in customs revenue from this. Operating the office on a public holiday is not only expected to provide easy service to the citizens but also have a positive impact on both the business and results of the office.
