Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: As many as 11 Nepalis have been arrested in different countries of West Asia for posting videos and photos on social media spreading rumors about the Israel-United States and Iran war. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave this information at a press conference today.
Of them, four are from Saudi Arabia, three each from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and one from Oman. There is a provision of legal punishment for taking pictures and videos of missile and drone attacks and posting them on any social media to spread intimidation. Spokesperson at the Ministry Lok Bahadur Poudel Chhetri said that so far 11 Nepalis have been arrested on the charge of violating the law by posting such content on social sites.
“We are informing the embassies and missions of the concerned countries about the condition of the arrested Nepali nationals and the possibility of their release,” he said. We are collecting information about the violation of the laws under which the arrested Nepali citizens have been arrested and how much fine will be imposed,” Chhetri said.
Spokesman Chhetri said that there is no risk of losing jobs due to the effects of the war in the Midwest. According to him, although there is a growing concern of Nepali workers losing their jobs especially in sectors such as hotels, restaurants and tourism, there is no risk of such loss in large areas. According to him, rescue of Nepalis affected by the war in the Gulf countries and who want to return home after being affected by the war is continually going on.
What is the status of the flight in the ‘call center’ issued by the ministry? Spokesperson Chhetri said that people who want to return home have been enquiring about the work permit. “So far, 86,420 people have registered their names. The number of people who say they are insecure is gradually decreasing. Even those who say they are insecure are slowly saying that they will work here safely. The evacuation of those in transit is almost complete,” he said.
