Kathmandu. Basudev Golyan Group, who is also the Vice President of Golyan Group, has been appointed as the Rotary International Director for Rotary International’s Zone 5 and 6. He was elected for the term of 2027-2029 and is the first Nepali to reach the post.
Golyan was elected as the International Director of Rotary International in the election held on February 10. He garnered 981 votes out of a total of 1,755 votes. Rotary International Zone 6 consists of 10 districts, of which 9 are in India. In the race for Rotary International Director, there were three candidates from India, but Golyan won.
On the occasion of his election as the Director of Rotary International on Saturday, Golyan Group in collaboration with Rotary Nepal organized a program to honor him. District Governor of Rotary International District 3292 Binod Koirala felicitated Golyan on the occasion. President of Rotary International, Olayinka Hakeem Babalola, congratulated Golyan through a video call.
Around 200 former district governors, industrialists and Rotarians from Nepal and India were present on the occasion. All of them congratulated International Director Golyan with respect and wished him success in his tenure. Accepting the award, Rotary International Director Golyan pledged to serve with more responsibility and honesty. “Today, the world needs Rotary more than ever before, we will not only be Rotary members but also ambassadors of hope,” he said, “For this, I commit to expand our influence and serve humanity more by embracing the values of Rotary.” ’
He pledged to focus on increasing membership development and participation in the Rotary Foundation during his tenure. “You reach out to the unserved, serve the unserved and be a source of inspiration,” he told the Rotarian.
