Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has urged the home administration and local levels to take legal action if the private schools are found refusing to return the fees.

On April 5, a directive was issued to some institutional schools to correct the practice of admitting students before the start of the academic session and charging more than the approved standard, contrary to the prevailing laws and the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court.

The Ministry has directed all concerned to return the fees collected illegally to the students in accordance with Section 166 (6) of the Education Act (with amendment), 2028 in the context of complaints that some institutional schools are still charging fees against the law.

“If any school is found doing anything other than this directive, it requests the Ministry of Home Affairs, concerned district administration offices and local levels to coordinate if it needs to take further action as per the provisions of Section 166 (7) of the same Act and other prevailing laws,” said a notice issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, Shiva Kumar Sapkota.

The Ministry also informed that a help desk has been set up at the Education and Human Resource Development Center for the purpose of recommending students’ fees and reporting complaints and facilitation.
