Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to NATO. At the same time, he repeated his threat on Greenland. Trump’s warning has sparked fears among some members of the NATO alliance that the United States could pull out of the seven-decade-old security alliance in the future.

After the meeting, Trump told NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte that the alliance could not be trusted if NATO did not provide the necessary support in the war with Iran. “NATO wasn’t there when we needed them, and if we needed them again, they wouldn’t be there,” he said in a post on Truth Social. ”

He called Greenland a “big, bad race, ice cube”, but made it clear what that meant.

Rutte, a former Dutch prime minister, said the atmosphere of the meeting was “open and frank”. But Trump has made clear his plans to leave NATO. White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said the president and the secretary general are continuing to discuss and that decisions could be made within the next few hours.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump also tried to discuss plans to withdraw US troops from their country, considering some NATO members uncooperative. He has destabilized the NATO alliance through past and recent moves, which have become even more sensitive as the US recently secured a two-week ceasefire with Iran.

Trump questioned the competence of NATO members, slammed British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for not being a “courageous leader like Winston Churchill” and ridiculed Britain’s aircraft carrier as “small and ineffective” or “toys”. Such threats have angered the United States’ traditional allies.

Root proved to be a key figure in making Trump feel calm and at ease and maintaining a friendly demeanor. He is also expected to meet with the Pentagon chief. He has already discussed Iran, Ukraine and NATO responsibilities with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Since Trump has returned to power, his actions have increased tensions in NATO. In particular, the alliance is being challenged by threats to annex Greenland, the decision of member states not to take action in the Ukraine-Russia war, and threats to halt aid if allies do not spend enough on defense. Trump’s tactics and personal style have created a situation of instability between the US and other powers.
