US-Iran tensions: Iran says diplomacy is achieving military goals

Kathmandu. Iran’s embassy in Japan has said that the objectives achieved through military aggression cannot be imposed through diplomacy, questioning the legitimacy of diplomatic dialogue.

Iran has reiterated its stance at a time when public opinion has intensified after the recent talks in Islamabad.

In a statement posted on X, the embassy said the “final and outstanding proposal” put forward by US Vice President J.D. Vance was “unilateral” and “unacceptable”. Iran said the proposal was “inherently reciprocal” and could not be used as a tool of pressure by any one side.

In the statement, Iran also called Vance’s statement that “Iran has chosen not to accept our terms” as a “coercive argument”. According to the embassy, such a stance is an attempt to force the other side to accept demands that have failed on the battlefield, which is contrary to diplomatic principles. At the same time, it has been claimed that the latest conflict started from another side and not Iran.

“Vance’s comments call for a more serious and critical debate in the international community,” Iran said in a statement. “Bad news for Iran,” the embassy said, referring to the “bad news” and said it needed to be “accurately assessed.” At the same time, Iran has expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its role in organizing and facilitating the dialogue.

Meanwhile, there are signs that regional tensions are escalating. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said its two warships, the USS Frank E. Peterson (DDG 121) and the USS Michael Murphy (DDG112), were preparing to clear mines in the Strait of Hormuz. It said the move was part of a wider campaign to make waterways safer.

However, Iran has quickly rejected the US claims. A spokesman for Iran’s military’s Khatam al-Anbiyah headquarters said the claim that any US aircraft had entered the area was “untrue”. According to him, the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz is completely under the control of Iran’s armed forces.

The escalating accusations between the two sides are further complicating the prospects for a diplomatic solution, where there are signs that a show of strength is taking precedence over negotiations.
