Head. Locals have started a campaign to collect donations for the construction of the Kamala Bridge linking Siraha and Dhanusha under the Postal Road, which has been incomplete for the past 14 years.
Social campaigner and journalist Ramrijhan Yadav informed that the campaign leaders formally launched the campaign by visiting Kamala Bridge today. “Though the construction work started 14 years ago, the deadline has been extended time and again. The problem has worsened after two pillars of the bridge collapsed due to floods in July 1, 2021. The lack of the bridge has seriously affected travel, health services, education and economic activities of millions of people of Madhes,” he said.
Campaigner Yadav said that the government has not been able to construct the bridge even in 14 years. According to him, the campaign has been started after informing Minister for Physical Infrastructure Kul Man Ghising, who visited the bridge some days ago, for inspection of the bridge.
Campaigners say that even though Minister Ghising has promised to build the bridge by prioritizing it, there is no situation to be convinced. Therefore, the project is estimated to cost around two billion rupees, so it is planned to support the government by collecting donations from the locals of Dhanusha, Siraha and Saptari districts.
For this campaign, Rs 10,000 will be collected from each family and the grant amount will be deposited in the government fund by registering the Bishnu Mahayagya and the campaign in the administration.
