64 parties submit closed list of PR to EC

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU — As many as 64 political parties have submitted the closed list of the proportional representation (PR) system for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives.

The Office of the Returning Officer of the proportional representation system established at the Election Commission’s office at Bahadur Bhawan had set a schedule for submitting the closed list for December 26 and 28. A total of 64 political parties have submitted their closed list until late Monday night and this morning, EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said.

A total of 424 candidates from 64 political parties have been included in the closed list for 110 seats under the system. Of the 64 parties that submitted the closed list, 54 parties have filed their candidacies with their own election symbol and 10 parties with common election symbol.

In the meantime, the process of submitting the closed list continued till late in the night as some political parties agreed on unity and cooperation. A total of 93 political parties had applied for candidature under this system.

He said that the investigation would be carried out from January 29 to 20 as per the schedule. The EC will give time to the parties to correct the closed list by January 2 after scrutinizing the closed list by January 3 or if there are insufficient documents.

According to the EC, the closed list prepared by the party will be examined from January 12 to January 13. The final list will be published on February 20.
