Strawberry farming earns Rs 21 lakh annually

Saud himself looks after the technical aspects of strawberry farming. The 27-year-old, who has been involved in strawberry farming for the past four years, said he had a strawberry business worth Rs 2.1 million last year. Last year, more than half of the money was saved, and this year too, more than 70 kg is being sold daily. He said that the business will increase this year as the area has increased.

According to him, he started selling from November this year and the income is also good. It is being sold at Rs 700 per kg. He has rented two bigha of land to cultivate strawberries. “I started strawberry farming by establishing an agriculture farm with the thought of doing something in this regard after studying about agro technology. ”

He said that the use of technology in traditional agriculture has achieved success. He has been commercially involved in strawberry farming not only in Ghorahi but also in 10 kattha of land in Kapilvastu and two bigha of land in Kailali.

Similarly, another farmer Birendra Khadka of Ghorahi is also commercially involved in strawberry farming. He has been cultivating strawberries for the past few years with the intention of doing something in his own country. At the age of 28, he has been earning a good income from this business.

Khadka, a permanent resident of Jabang Dudilabot in Madi rural municipality-1 of Rolpa, said that strawberry farming at Jhingaura of Ghorahi sub-metropolis-14 in Dang is better than expected.

Farmer Khadka said, “I had studied agriculture and started floriculture business by establishing an agriculture farm eight years ago with ÷the intention of doing something in my own area. ”

He has been engaged in commercial strawberry farming by renting land from Swargadwari Ashram at Jhingaura in Ghorahi. He also cultivates marigolds during festivals and watermelon during summer season through Dang Agromart Agriculture Farm.

Stating that strawberry fruit is considered to be a good fruit in terms of taste as well as nutritious qualities, Khadka said, “Initially, more than eight lakh rupees were spent on bringing the saplings and adopting mulching method for drip irrigation.” The saplings planted in the last part of August are now producing and selling fruit. It is expected to generate even better income. ”

Information Officer of Agriculture Knowledge Centre Dang and agro economist Prithviraj Lamichhane said it would be good if the produce could be sold daily. According to him, it is necessary to be careful especially in packing and transportation as the market is small in the district. He said that farmers should be careful as there is a possibility of spoilage if they are picked and kept in packing for many days.

Stating that the air, water and soil of the district are all good, he said, “Strawberry is one of the fruit plants found in cold areas. According to him, although he has not done much farming commercially in the district, he has been planting a small amount in the pots of the house in some places.
