Kathmandu. The government has honoured the Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation) and its top leadership for their transformative contribution in the development of information and communication technology (ICT) sector, digital literacy and production of skilled manpower.
CAN was honoured amid a special ceremony organized on the occasion of the second anniversary of National Vocational Training Academy (NVTA) under the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security.
On the occasion, two office-bearers of CAN Federation were felicitated and letter of appreciation on behalf of the government. On the occasion, FNCCI’s Senior Vice President Chiranjivi Adhikari was felicitated for his leadership role in laying the foundation of vocational ICT training and Chandra Bilas Bhurtel, General Secretary for his commendable work as the coordinator of the curriculum drafting sub-committee.
Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Rajendra Singh Bhandari, Labour Secretary and Chairman of National Vocational Training Academy Development Committee Dr. Deepak Kafle and Executive Director of the Foundation Ramesh Kumar Bakti jointly handed over the felicitations to the federation.
CAN Senior Vice President Adhikari had initiated the concept of ‘Skill in Hand’ when he was the General Secretary. His vision of integrating soft skills and vocational technical skills, transcending traditional certificate-based education, has focused the industry’s attention on not just being certified, but essentially qualified. This has ensured that Nepali trainees get real skills as per industry standards.
In the fiscal year 2081/82, NVTA and CAN Federation collaborated to develop two basic computer skill courses to address the demands of the labour market. These programs are designed to directly link the production of skilled manpower to economic needs and employment.
Receiving the award, the CAN Federation has pledged to play a stronger role in the skill development and employment generation in the information technology sector in the coming days as well. The federation aims to further expand its programs to make Nepali workforce competitive in the global digital economy.
