Kathmandu. The Election Commission has also brought the activities on social media under the purview of the code of conduct with the objective of making the election of the House of Representatives fair and dignified.
The election to the House of Representatives is taking place on March 4. According to the EC, the code of conduct prohibits anyone from operating an account on social networks or creating a fake site with the intention of adversely affecting the election. The code of conduct prohibits social media from spreading demeaning or spreading propaganda with the intention of influencing the elections with or without the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Likewise, the code of conduct prohibits misleading comments such as dissemination of misleading information, insult and malicious speech.
Likewise, the information or materials published or disseminated for any purpose with or without the use of artificial intelligence will not be allowed to be distorted with the intention of influencing the election.
The code of conduct makes provision that no undesirable slander should be made that would adversely affect the credibility of the election or the reputation of the commission, commissioners or employees. The code of conduct prepared by the EC states that no material can be produced in any form or published or disseminated by any means to assassinate anyone’s character, slander or defamation of anyone.
No act shall be done to breach the privacy of the voters and the electorate, or to affect the fairness or impartiality of the election. The EC is preparing to enforce the code of conduct from January 17.
