Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The inaugural session of the special general convention of the Nepali Congress (NC) has begun at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu today.

General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma inaugurated the special general convention. Leaders and cadres from different parts of the Kathmandu Valley had gathered before the inauguration of the special general convention on January 12 and 28.

An extensive stage has been arranged in the open ground of Bhrikutimandap for the inaugural session and thousands of leaders and cadres have been present in front of the stage. NC flags, gates, banners and publicity materials have been put up around the stage. Nepali Congress Kathmandu President Krishna Sabuj Baniya presided over the special convention.

After the inauguration of the special general convention, the closed session will be held at the meeting hall of Bhrikutimandap from January 12. A petition had been registered at the party’s central office on October 12 demanding a special general convention with the signatures of 54.58 per cent of the party’s general convention representatives.

However, the establishment faction of the party has expressed its disagreement regarding the special general convention. The establishment faction of the party has said that the relevance of the special general convention has automatically ended as the process has already begun by fixing the schedule of the regular general convention.
