Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has begun the reconstruction of the 151-year-old ‘Dhoka Chhe’ in Kathmandu.
KATHMANDU: The reconstruction of a 151-year-old historic ‘Dhoka Chhe’ Falcha in Kathmandu’s ancient and cultural settlement ‘Gwal De’ (Pashupati area) has begun on Monday.
Chairperson of KMC Ward No. 8 and coordinator of KMC’s heritage and tourism committee, Ashaman Sangat, performed the foundation worship and initiated the reconstruction work. Coordinator Sangat informed that the ward has started reconstructing the Falcha at a cost of around Rs 13.70 million to preserve the historical and religious heritage of the Falcha (Pati) built in 995 BS.
Ward Chair Sangat said works would be carried out in a way that there would be no change in antiquity and artistry during the reconstruction. It’s not just a resting place. One of the most important parts of Pashupat, Bachhaleshwari Jatra is an integral part of the procession. According to Sangat, there was a tradition of worshipping Ganesh and Kumari in the same falcha during the time of lifting the chariot of Bachhaleshwari Jatra.
It was customary to worship Kumars and Kumaris in Falcha and feed the offerings offered there to the children. It is believed that feeding in this way opens the voice of children who are ‘unable to speak or speak slowly’. According to KMC, the reconstruction of Phalcha has begun to keep the people’s faith alive and to protect the cultural and social link.
KMC believes that the reconstruction of Falcha would play a big role in maintaining the historicity and originality of the global area. With this, the locals will recover an important religious and cultural physical structure that has been lost and disappeared.
