Kathmandu. A writ petition filed by former Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba against the Election Commission’s decision to give recognition to the special general convention has been heard in the single bench of Justice Sunil Pokhrel.
Gagan Thapa has been elected as the president of the Nepali Congress (NC). It was recognized by the Election Commission. Nepali Congress leader Purna Bahadur Khadka had moved the Supreme Court challenging the EC’s decision. According to the Supreme Court, the case is pending in Pokharel’s bench.
Deuba has decided not to contest the elections in the Nepali Congress. Khadka had also said that he would contest the election saying that he had filed a case for legitimacy. Other leaders of the Deuba faction have already filed their candidacy with the ticket signed by Gagan Thapa.
