Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is to construct box culverts at Bagbazar and Babarmahal to reduce the risk of inundation and erosion during the rainy season.
Sub-engineer at the KMC Public Works Department, Deepak Bahadur Shahi, said that the box culvert would be constructed at Tukucha rivulet along the road section leading from Putalisadak to Bagbazar to Ratnapark. According to him, the contract amount is Rs 5,772,694.
An agreement has been reached with the construction side to complete the culvert construction by mid-April. The culvert will be five meters on the road side and 14 meters on the water flow. “Now there is a humus pipe to drain the water. The hum pipes installed in this way have become old,” Sub-Engineer Shahi said, adding, “The flow of water has stopped during the rainy season.” The box culvert is being constructed to reduce the risk of inundation and erosion during the rainy season. ”
After the culvert construction begins, the traffic on the road will be completely stopped. Shahi said that coordination has been made with the Traffic Police Office to manage an alternative route for the vehicles heading towards Bagbazaar via Dillibazaar, Putalisadak Chowk and going to Bagbazar via Ram Shah Path. For this, the vehicles coming from both sides can take a left turn at Kamaladi turn and the road towards Kamaladi Ganesh Temple and Ghantaghar can be a suitable alternative route.
Along with this, a box culvert is also being constructed near Rosebird School at the confluence of the Dhobi Khola river section. The contract amount is Rs 2,21,23,899. An agreement has been made with the construction side to complete the work by mid-January 2083. The culvert will be 17 meters long and seven meters wide.
The iron bridge at this place was damaged by the flood of Dhobi Khola in 2080 B.S. along with the foundation. Hirala Tandukar, chairperson of Ward No 11, said, “Various agencies came for the construction of the bridge. After that, the ward was making the construction plan and it was going to be constructed from the central budget of the metropolis,” said ward chair Tandukar.
