2.42 per cent inflation in January: Where has it decreased and where has it increased?

Kathmandu. In the current fiscal year 2082/83, the year-on-year consumer price inflation stood at 2.42 percent.

According to the report released by Nepal Rastra Bank, the price of food and beverages has been negative.

According to the NRB, the inflation of food and beverages group was negative by 0.09 percent while that of non-food and service group was 3.81 percent in the review period. In the corresponding period of the previous year, inflation of these groups was 7.67 percent and 4.19 percent, respectively.

According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, the average inflation in the six months of the fiscal year 2082/83 was 1.70 percent. In the corresponding period of the previous year, the average inflation rate was 4.97 percent.

Within the food and beverage group, consumer price index of fruits and beverages increased by 5.20 percent, ghee and oil by 4.96 percent and non-alcoholic beverages by 3.04 percent in the review period. The Consumer Price Index of Lentils and Beans sub-group decreased by 5.52 per cent, spices by 3.92 per cent and food and food products by 3.70 per cent.

The Consumer Price Index of Miscellaneous Goods and Services sub-groups under non-food and services group increased by 21.75 percent in the review period. Likewise, education increased by 7.56 per cent, clothing and footwear by 5.29 per cent, tobacco products by 4.15 per cent and alcoholic beverages by 3.85 per cent. The Consumer Price Index for Insurance and Financial Services (BFF) decreased by 0.03 percent in the review period.

During the period, the annual Consumer Price Index of the rural areas increased by 1.99 percent and the corresponding increase of 2.57 percent in the urban areas.

Province-wise, year-on-year consumer price inflation stood at 3.25 per cent, Madhes 3.37 per cent, Bagmati Province 2.10 per cent, Gandaki Province 1.76 per cent, Lumbini Province 2.62 per cent, Karnali Province 1.08 per cent and Sudurpaschim Province 1.27 per cent. Likewise, the year-on-year consumer price inflation of Kathmandu Valley was 2.48 per cent, 2.65 per cent in the Terai, 1.94 per cent in the hilly region and 2.66 per cent in the mountainous region.
