76 people removed from PR list: 21 blacklisted

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU — The Election Commission (EC) has removed the names of 76 candidates from the closed list of the proportional representation system for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 4.

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to remove the names of 76 candidates from the Election Commission (EC) following its probe into the closed list of candidates submitted by the political parties, said NCP Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.

He said that the details of the candidates were verified on the basis of the complaints received at the Office of the Proportional Election Officer, provisions related to the qualifications and disqualification of the candidates as stipulated by the prevailing law, the decisions made by the Election Commission on different dates and information received from the political parties.

According to the press release, the names of one candidate from the Nepali Congress, one from the CPN-UML and three from the Nepali Communist Party have been removed.

According to Bhattarai, the government removed the names of 21 people from the blacklist of the Credit Information Centre, 25 from the closed list of the State Assembly member under the proportional representation system, 10 for not paying the fine fixed by the Election Commission, four who were not above two years of age, one not included in the voters’ list and two from the voters’ list not in the backward areas.

Similarly, the name of a male candidate has been removed from the post of a female candidate. Spokesperson Bhattarai said that the names of 10 people were removed from the list at the request of the political parties concerned. Similarly, two people with more than one reason have also been removed from the closed list.
