The CPN-UML candidates have won the parliamentary elections five times since 1991 while the Nepali Congress candidates have won two times. Kiran Gurung of the CPN-UML in 1991, Amar Raj Kaini of the Nepali Congress in 2051 BS, Tukraj Sigdel of the CPN (UML) in 2056 BS, Kiran Gurung of the CPN (UML) in 2064 BS, Tukraj Sigdel of the CPN (UML) in 2070 BS, Kedar Sigdel of the CPN (UML) in 2074 BS and Shankar Bhandari of the Nepali Congress were elected to the post in 2079 BS.
This time, new parties are also challenging in this area. There are 11 candidates in the fray. According to the Election Office, Shankar Bhandari of Nepali Congress, Kedar Sigdel of CPN-UML, Som Bahadur Thapa of Nepali Communist Party, Lal Bahadur Gotame of Rastriya Janamukti Party, Lal Bahadur Gotame of Rastriya Janamukti Party, Yam Bahadur Thakuri of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Nam Bahadur Rana of National Republic Nepal, Laxman Adhikari of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and Ganesh Bahadur Lamgade of CPN (Maoist) are in the fray ।
Shankar Bhandari of Nepali Congress was elected to the House of Representatives in the 2079 BS election from the alliance with the then CPN (Maoist Centre) securing 30,604 votes. CPN-UML’s Kiran Gurung got 25,130 votes, Rastriya Swatantra Party’s Bijaya Joshi got 5,373 votes and Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s Narendra Pratap Mahat got 1,421 votes.
The main contestants are likely to be contested between the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Centre), Nepali Communist Party and Rastriya Samajwadi Party.
