In the last election, Shrestha of Rastriya Samajwadi Party (RSP) won from Kathmandu-8 with 10,112 votes.TAG_OPEN_div_58 Suman Sayami, who was contesting from Hamro Nepali Party, became the closest competitor with 6,179 votes.

There are 57 TAG_OPEN_div_46,811 voters in Kathmandu-8. There are eight wards of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Nagarjun Municipality in the constituency. The constituency comprises wards 13, 15, 19, 20, 23 and 24 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and ward no 4 and 5 of Nagarjun Municipality. According to the Election Commission, there are 65 polling stations in 23 polling stations in the constituency.
