Ski competition kicks off in Muktinath

Kathmandu. Preparations have begun for the ski competition to be played on the Setamme snow in the Waragung Mukti area here. The fifth National Ski Championship is taking place in Muktinath on February 7. The Ski Association has been organizing the ski competition since 2016 with the objective of contributing to the development of tourism by developing and promoting snow skiing.

The first national ski competition that started from Kanjen Valley of Rasuwa for the first time is being held in Muktinath area of Mustang. Ski competitions were held in Mustang in 2019, 2020 and 2022. Athletes and officials from Kathmandu have already arrived in Mustang to participate in the fifth National Ski Championship.

} The team has already built a ‘groundloop’ for ski games in the Muktinath area on Wednesday. President of the Mustang Skiing Association, Suraj Gurung, informed that the training for skiing and competition has started from today. He said that training is being done for junior ski players today and training for senior players is scheduled for Friday.

According to Gurung, although the National Ski Championship is scheduled to be held on February 7 (Saturday), the schedule will be fixed depending on the weather conditions.TAG_OPEN_div_32 A total of 14 male and 10 female athletes will take part in the snow adventure skiing competition.

According to the association, senior coach Swaraj Shrestha, assistant coaches Dinesh Bohora, Samip Lamichhane, Laxmi Rai, Ayushi Maharjan and physical trainer Bimantha Adhikari will train the players.

According to Nepal Ski Association General Secretary Shrestha, this year’s competition will include slalom ski and jaan slalom ski methods under alpine skiing.TAG_OPEN_div_28 The winners of the competition will be awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals. General Secretary Shrestha said that the Nepal Ski Association will bear the cost of all the boarding, food and transportation expenses of the athletes and officials coming to Mustang for the championship.
