Egg prices fall sharply

Chitwan. The price of eggs has fallen drastically. Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers’ Association has slashed the price of poultry with effect from Monday. Association president Binod Pokharel said egg price fell after egg was imported from India at the same time with the increase in production.

As per the support price, the price of big egg (of 30) has been fixed at Rs 375 per crate and the medium egg has been fixed at Rs 335 per crate. Earlier, on February 5, the price of eggs was Rs 435 per crate and the medium egg was Rs 405 per crate. On January 24, the big egg reached 495 and the medium egg reached 475.

The price of eggs had reached an all-time high in November. At that time, a large egg was sold at Rs 565 per crate. The middle class was Rs 550. According to Association Chair Pokharel, the import of white eggs from India has increased due to which the local egg could not get market and price. He said that the association has been continuously demanding the government bodies to stop the ban on Indian eggs.

The cost of production of eggs is Rs 19.12 per egg. On this basis, the cost price comes to Rs 574 per crate. Farmers are disappointed after the price of eggs fell again as the cost of living is nearing the end.

The association collects prices from firms across the country and issues the support price of eggs based on Chitwan.
