Kathmandu-2: Everyone’s ‘agenda’ is the same, from traffic jam in Koteshwor to the lure of employment opportunities, candidates have gathered at the doorsteps

. KATHMANDU — Election hustle and bustle has intensified in Kathmandu constituency-2 as the date for the House of Representatives election is nearing.

Although the formal campaigning will begin from February 17, the candidates are reaching out to the voters through door-to-door meetings, neighborhood meetings and interactions.

There are 28 candidates in this constituency.TAG_OPEN_div_16 There are 16 and 12 independent members of the political parties. CPN-UML’s Maniram Phuyal, Nepali Congress’s Kabir Sharma, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP)’s Sunil KC, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RSP)’s Mukunda Karki and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)’s Kunti Devi Pokharel are in the fray. There are 22 men and 6 women. The party has fielded three independent candidates and three women.

This constituency will be contested between the candidates of the old political parties and their candidates from the new party. The candidates said that they have taken this election not only as a partisan contest but also as a test of faith.

The ‘agenda’ of most of the candidates is employment, infrastructure development, education, health and corruption control.TAG_OPEN_div_12 They are promising to address the problems related to the daily lives of the voters rather than making laws.  Traffic jam in Koteshwor, drinking water problem, management of Manohara corridor and employment opportunities have been made the agenda of almost all the candidates.

Although the country has adopted the federal system of governance, voters expect the problems of roads, bridges, drainage and drinking water to be resolved through the lawmakers. The candidates have said that the voters should not put the slap of those representing in the federal parliament to make laws to fulfill the basic needs of the people to be fulfilled by the local, provincial and local levels after the implementation of federalism.
