Kathmandu. The Strong Women Prosperous Nepal Programme run by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) with the financial and technical support of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Nepal has established an infant care, first aid center and lactation room on the premises of Green Home Pvt. Ltd. located in Godavari-6, Kailali.

The structure, which has been prepared with an investment of about Rs 10 lakh, will allow women employees with children to take care of their children from time to time.

Inside the structure, arrangements have been made for nutritious food for the children along with necessary equipment and sports materials. The industry will also keep facilitators for them in this room.

Dinesh Lamsal, general secretary of Kailali Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has set up a child care, first aid centre and lactation room on the premises of Kailali Chamber of Commerce and Industry at a time when most of the female employees are quitting their jobs citing lack of time for taking care of their children. The federation has provided the necessary internal materials for the room.

Inaugurating the care center, Mr. Bharat Raj Acharya, Treasurer, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) said that such initiatives will align with broader goals such as sustainable development and workforce stability while reducing the burden of unpaid care work. “As part of the Care-Economy, a shared commitment from the private sector has established workplace child care centers for industry employees, especially women. It will support working parents and promote gender equality. This practice should be followed by other industries as well,” he said.

According to industry proprietor Lamsal, the child care center has been set up in the premises of the industry to provide a good environment to the children of experienced female employees after the problem of leaving the job in his company started increasing due to the problem of children. Currently, there are 92 female and 32 male employees at the factory.

Hari Poudel, assistant director of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), said that the women workers are excited to be able to take care of their children in the industry. According to Poudel, the industry has provided physical infrastructure for the establishment of child care center, breastfeeding and dressing room.
