Gandaki. The Kaski District Court has refused to proceed with the case against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RPP) President Rabi Lamichhane on the charge of organized crime and money laundering.
Rajan Khanal, registrar at the District Attorney Court, said that the order was issued on Monday after hearing the writ petition filed by the District Government Attorney Office against Lamichhane for withdrawal of the case of organized crime and money laundering.
The District Government Attorney’s Office had filed an application at the District Court seeking withdrawal of the case against Lamichhane for organized crime and money laundering. A single bench of District Judge Nitish Rai issued the order on Tuesday after the Supreme Court issued a writ petition challenging the decision of the Office of the Attorney General.
“There is no order to withdraw the case or not, as a writ petition has also been filed in the Supreme Court on this issue, the order has not been issued to put the case on hold until the Supreme Court’s order,” Khanal said.
In the Suryadarshan cooperative fraud case of Pokhara, Lamichhane was also charged with organized crime and money laundering. The Office of the Attorney General on January 15 had decided to withdraw the case of organized crime and money laundering by keeping the case of cooperative fraud against Lamichhane as its defendant.
