Banks and financial institutions to open their branches during election holidays

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has made necessary arrangements for the regular operation of the branches of banks and financial institutions in order to facilitate the election to the member of the House of Representatives.

The government has declared a three-day public holiday in view of the general election to the House of Representatives scheduled for March 4.

Arrangements have been made for revenue deposit through the Financial Comptroller General Office as per the Commission’s decision and request so as not to affect the substantive works and services of the financial side during the period due to Fagu Purnima and other public holidays.

The Office of the Financial Comptroller and Treasury has operated services related to election, payment and revenue payment. For this purpose, the office has deputed technical human resources for the operation of the system and made arrangements for uninterrupted service delivery, the EC stated.

Necessary arrangements have been made by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) to facilitate the banks operating election publicity bank accounts of government agencies, banks, political parties and candidates, and the banks and financial institutions operating their election publicity bank accounts.

The Commission has informed that arrangements have been made for the smooth operation of the payment and necessary systems. Election Commission Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said that the financial and banking services will not be available on that day as the voting day for voters across the country and it will be operated as it will be from March 5.
