Kathmandu. Women candidates have been elected in five seats in the ongoing election to the House of Representatives.
Ranju Neupane of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has been elected from Kathmandu-1 with 15,455 votes. Similarly, Rubina Acharya of Rastriya Samajwadi Party (RSP) has been elected in Morang-6 with 55,513 votes, Rastriya Janata Party’s Bina Gurung has 37,750 votes in Kaski-3 and Komal Gyawali of Rastriya Samajwadi Party has 17,826 votes in Kailali-1. Nepali Congress candidate Basana Thapa has been elected from Dailekh constituency-1 with 12,372 votes.
Similarly, Sobita Gautam of Rastriya Janata Party (RSP) has been elected from Chitwan-3. On the basis of the vote count, Dr. Tosima Karki (Lalitpur-3), Indira Rana Magar (Jhapa-2), Nisha Dangi (Jhapa-1), Nitima Bhandari (Sarlahi-1), Ashika Tamang (Dhading-1), Pushpa Kumari Chaudhary (Saptari-1) and Gauri Kumari (Mahottari-4) are in the leading positions.
According to the commission, results have been published in 45 places so far. Vote counting is underway in 118 of the 165 electoral constituencies under first-past-the-post electoral system. Of the total 3,406 first-past-the-post election candidates, 388 are women.
