Chitwan. As many as 57 people, including leaders of the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, have forfeited their deposits in the House of Representatives elections held on March 4. Their deposits have been forfeited while contesting in three constituencies of the district.
According to the District Election Office, the deposits of 15 candidates were forfeited in Chitwan-1 and 21-21 in Chitwan-2 and 3. According to Netra Raj Shrestha, information officer at the office, the deposits of the candidates who did not get 10 per cent of the valid votes cast in their constituencies have been forfeited. According to him, 18 candidates had filed their candidacies in constituency no 1 and 23 each in constituency no 2 and 3. Except for the candidates of Rastriya Samajwadi Party (RSP), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, all their deposits have been forfeited. A total of 96,154 votes were cast in the constituency. A total of 91,899 votes were approved.
In Chitwan-2, all the candidates except the Rastriya Swatantra Party and Nepali Congress have forfeited their deposits. According to him, 87,221 votes were cast in the constituency. A total of 84,232 votes were cast. Likewise, in constituency no. 3, the deposits of other political parties and independent candidates except Rastriya Swatantra Party and Nepali Communist Party have been forfeited. A total of 1,53 votes were cast in the constituency. A total of 283,428 votes were cast in the district, he said.
The vote counting under the proportional representation system has also reached the final phase in the district. Information Officer Shrestha said that the vote counting under the proportional representation system in Constituency No. 2 and 3 has been completed while the vote counting in Constituency No. 1 has reached the final stage.
