Chitwan. As many as 43 places along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section are at high risk of landslides.
As per the study carried out by the Road Division Office, Bharatpur, D is at high risk of disaster, 22 at risk of disaster and 13 at moderate risk. According to the study carried out by the office, the Tuin River, which is said to be high risk, is very high risk.
Office’s engineer Arjun Ghimire said that Kali and Namsi rivers along with tuin are at high risk of flooding. Similarly, the central part of Chisenji from Tuin Khola, two places of Charkilo, Maurikhola and Seti Dovan are at high risk of landslides.
“There is a problem of stone falling between Tuin and Chisenji. There is a high risk of landslides near Tuin, Kali and Namsi rivulets. Out of the two places in Char Kilo, there is a problem of landslide in one and mudslide in the other. There is a high risk of landslides along with silt in Mauri Khola and Seti Dovan,” said engineer Ghimire. Similarly, 16 kilo , 17 kilo , Dumre rivulet and Simal lake among other places are at risk of disaster.
There was a risk of landslides in those places since last year. Narayan Lamichhane, chief of the office, said that the Department of Roads has already sent the master plan for approval on February 7 to prevent landslides in Tuin, Kali and Namsi rivulets. He said the department has also taken the design work to the final stage. He added that preparations have been made to prevent landslides from Rs 250 million allocated from the disaster in these areas.
According to Lamichhane, Rs 200 million has been allocated for the prevention of landslides in other places. Stating that preparations have been made to call for tenders, he said that the mapping has been completed and bidding will be called in a few days and works will be carried out to prevent and reduce landslides in the risky areas before the rainy season. The office has said that necessary preparations have been made as the road could be at risk of landslide with the onset of rain.
The wall was cut a few years ago in course of road expansion. The road section has been facing problems during the rainy season due to landslides including cracking of walls and landslides in new places. More than 10,000 vehicles pass through this road section every day. This road is taken as the lifeline for the capital Kathmandu.
