Driver of Balabesi helicopter crash says driver switched off engine immediately after accident

Khotang. At least six people were injured when an Air Dynasty helicopter crashed at Balabesi of Kepilasgadhi rural municipality-2 in the district today. The helicopter carrying five passengers from Kathmandu had reached Balabensi of Khartamchha at 12:02 pm when it hit the wall while landing.

Kaji Bahadur Rai, 65, of Lalitpur was injured in the crash, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prakash Budhathoki. Kazi Bahadur has sustained injuries in his right leg and eye in the accident.

Relatives of 77-year-old Mana Laxmi Rai of Balabesi who died in the UK a month ago had arrived in the helicopter to perform the last rites. The deceased’s husband Dakmani Rai, 82, son Bal Kumar Rai, 53, daughter Laxmi Rai, 47, relative Samala Rai, 40, and Kaji Bahadur were injured in the chopper crash.

According to the relatives, arrangements were made to take the body of the deceased to Balabensi on Thursday. However, the relatives of those killed in the helicopter crash are safe, said ward chair Rai. Bal Kumar Rai, who was on board the chopper said that the driver switched off the engine immediately after the accident caused no further damage.
