Kathmandu. A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) challenging the government’s decision to nominate Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal to the National Assembly. The writ petition was filed on Thursday naming Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Office of the Council of Ministers and Home Minister Aryal as defendants. Advocate Manish Kumar Shrestha filed the writ petition.

The writ has argued that there is a conflict of interest and a question of morality in the decision as the Article 87 (1) (e) of the Constitution of Nepal has recommended that one should not hold any office of profit to be a member of the Federal Parliament.

On March 1, Aryal was recommended for a seat to be appointed to the National Assembly on the recommendation of the government.
