Kabhrepalanchok. The District Disaster Management Committee has started recommending the names of the victims for the construction of permanent houses after one and half years of the damage caused by floods and landslides. A meeting of the committee held on Monday decided to recommend the list of victims of floods and landslides of 2081 BS in Roshi Rural Municipality.
The committee has recommended the construction of 199 houses as permanent as well as retrofitting of 40 houses in the first phase. Coordinator of the committee, Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari, said that the committee has started recommending for the construction of permanent shelters after investigating the damage caused to the houses in last year’s disaster. According to him, recommendations would be made to other local levels of the district gradually as a recommendation has been started at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) from Roshi rural municipality.
The government had decided to provide a grant of Rs 400,000 for the permanent reconstruction of the houses damaged by the floods and landslides in September 2081. As per the decision, the federal government would bear 50 per cent of the total Rs 400,000 while the provincial government would bear 30 per cent and the local level would bear 20 per cent. Earlier, the government provided temporary housing grant to 2,895 households of 10 local levels of the district, according to the District Administration Office.
As many as 12 people were killed in floods and landslides in Roshi Rural Municipality. Likewise, 482 houses were completely damaged and 883 houses were partially damaged by floods and landslides. Similarly, the farms of 2,544 families have been damaged. Likewise, 60 drinking water projects, a cemented bridge, schools and four health centres were also damaged. The floods swept away Damfu Park, a 10-bed hospital and an industrial village with a cooling centre.
A total of 81 people lost their lives in floods and landslides in September last year. Six people are still listed as missing and more than a hundred were injured. A detailed damage assessment of private houses was started from Roshi rural municipality, which had suffered the most loss of life and property in the district since mid-April.
