FNCCI demands adjustment of transport fare after fuel price hike

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNNTE) has demanded adjustment in transport transport fares.

Issuing a press release today, FNCCI general secretary Deknath Gautam demanded the government to adjust the transport fares citing difficulties in operation of public transport due to the hike in the price of diesel and petrol.TAG_OPEN_div_22

After the price of diesel increased by 10 per liter and petrol by TAG_OPEN_div_20 15 per liter on March 15, the Federation of Nepalese Transport Management (FNNCCI) had demanded adjustment in the transport fare.

Although the Department TAG_OPEN_div_18 of Transport Management (DoTM) had written to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport for the fare adjustment on the basis of 13 indicators as per the scientific fare adjustment procedure formulated since 2065 BS, the transport entrepreneurs have complained that the fare adjustment has not been done.

Saroj Sitaula, acting chairperson of Mahangha, said that although the department has written to the Ministry to adjust the fare of passengers by 11.33 percent, freight carriers by 8.81 percent and 14.29 percent in the hilly areas.TAG_OPEN_div_16

The federation has said that the business cannot be operated at a loss for many days and the service should be closed or the fare should be self-announced as recommended by the department.

General Secretary Gautam said that if the fare is not adjusted, the transport entrepreneurs across the country will be requested to adjust the fare as per the scientific method and operate the service by charging the fare as recommended by the Department of Transport Management.TAG_OPEN_div_12
