Newly-appointed Communications Minister Timilsina vows to restore declining trust in politics and administration

Kathmandu. Newly-appointed Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dr Bikram Timilsina, has assumed office today. He assumed office at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology based in Singha Durbar today. In his address to the chiefs and representatives of the employees and subordinate bodies after assuming the office at the Ministry, Minister Timilsina said that his priority was to fulfill his responsibilities rather than getting the post. The country is looking for a way out, he said, urging one and all to restore the declining trust on politics and administration.

“We have taken responsibility and the biggest religion is to restore the waning trust in politics and administration,” he said, adding that the message that politics itself is wrong should be corrected and hope should be instilled in the country. ’

On the occasion, Dr Timilsina said the Ministry would provide full support to the government as per the ‘mission’ and vision of Prime Minister Balendra Shah. He also urged the employees to work with collective spirit by using honesty and capacity. “Every thought you have should not be in conflict with the laws and regulations of this country. It should not be in conflict with the dreams of the people of this country. Please keep this in mind and proceed with your duties,” Minister Timilsina said.

He expressed the view that he has been dedicated to his duty since today and will work for the progress of the country. On the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry, Laxmi Kumari Basnet, briefed the Minister about the main works, policies and plans and laws of the Ministry. “The budget ceiling has been received. We will carry out works like budget formulation and prioritization under the direction of the minister,” he said.

Employees and subordinates of the Ministry have welcomed the newly-appointed ministers. Newly-appointed Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dr Bikram Timilsina has been elected to the House of Representatives from Nuwakot constituency-1 on behalf of Rastriya Swatantra Party.

Dr Timilsina has received a PhD in political and international affairs from Griffith University in Australia. Before becoming a lawmaker, he used to teach internal security, politics and diplomacy at Tribhuvan University.

Dr. Timilsina is a research expert and analyst. He was also involved in nuanced study of Nepal’s peace process, foreign policy and geo-political complexities and providing research-oriented presentation at international forums.

Also associated with the literature, writing and journalism sector, Dr Timilsina is considered an expert on ‘Fight Against Corruption: Anti-Corruption Studies’. He was also the founder of the Asian Institute for Advanced Research.
