Nepal is self-reliant in footwear, exports three million paired shoes annually

Kathmandu. Nepal exports three million pairs of shoes to foreign countries every year.

Issuing a press release today, Nirmal Bhattarai, general secretary of the Shoe Manufacturers’ Association, said that Nepal is self-reliant in shoes.

“The Nepali shoe industry has the capacity to produce 160 million pairs of shoes annually. Three million pairs of shoes are exported annually,” he said. Nepali shoes account for 70 percent of the domestic consumption, according to the association.

The Association has proposed Suraj Banjade, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), as a member of the Objective Working Committee of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) to be held in Kathmandu on April 29 and 30. The association has played significant role in the economic development, employment generation and export sectors of the country, reads the press release.

Nepal is self-reliant in shoe production and has been contributing to country’s economy by earning foreign currency through shoe export, said Bhattarai, general secretary of the association. According to him, they have proposed Banjade as a member of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) to resolve the problems seen in the course of shoe production and export through the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Stating that the development and promotion of Nepali shoe industry and promotion of Nepali shoes market was the need of the hour, it was necessary to have a strong representation of the president in the federation to achieve the goal set by the association.
