Govt welcomes government’s policy of repealing some Acts, stresses collaboration with private sector

. KATHMANDU: The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has responded positively to the newly-formed government initiating the process to scrap old and irrelevant laws and move towards policy-level reforms.

} Making its views public through a press release today, the Confederation said that the government has given priority to the implementation of the suggestions collected from the private sector since the past. According to the CNI, the organization representing the industries active in the manufacturing and service sector has been pointing out the need for legal and structural reforms for a long time. The CNI has expressed satisfaction that the new government has shown signs of addressing these suggestions.

} Also, positive expectations have been expressed that the promotion of good governance and corruption control have been made the main agenda of the government. The CNI has welcomed the decision to start the process of repealing the act banning foreign investment, the Compensation Act, some acts related to black marketeering and social crimes, Nepal Agency Act, among others.

Similarly, the move to abolish the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) has also been taken as a reform-oriented initiative.TAG_OPEN_div_26 The government aims to transform public service delivery into a ‘digital’, one-door and inter-connected system, increase transparency and accountability and fast-track processes for the speedy and quality completion of large national projects. Issuing a press release today, the Confederation has taken preparations to ease the processes related to land acquisition, determination of compensation, tree cutting and environmental impact assessment as positive.

Similarly, making the public procurement system fully digital and trackable, encouraging competition and paying special attention to the security of the private sector is also important.TAG_OPEN_div_24 The government’s plan to make special security arrangements for the security of industries, banking infrastructure and supply chain is also welcome.

KATHMANDU: The Confederation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce (CNI) has stressed the need for continuous dialogue with the private sector by making the Industry and Commerce Dialogue Council chaired by the Prime Minister active.TAG_OPEN_div_22 Similarly, automating tax administration, controlling revenue leakage, expanding taxpayer-friendly services, implementing private sector promotion strategy and initiating power purchase agreement in the energy sector are also considered important.

The confederation has also described the consolidation of similar funds to invest in high-yield projects, develop Nepal as a hub of wellness tourism and initiate the process of determining minimum support price for major food crops.TAG_OPEN_div_20

The Confederation has been urging all political parties to focus on the economic agenda.TAG_OPEN_div_18 Stating that the government is preparing to prepare a ‘national commitment’ by incorporating the manifestos and commitments of various political parties, it has been said that it should be made comprehensive economic development-oriented.

Pledging to continue support to the government through research-based suggestions, the CNI expressed the belief that the country’s economic development would take a new momentum through new investment, employment generation and expansion of productive industries.TAG_OPEN_div_16
