Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The government has decided to do away with the token system in labour permit for foreign employment and grant approval on the same day of application.
Earlier, there was a provision to accept tokens only on the specified days. A meeting of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security held on Sunday on the presence of Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Deepak Kumar Sah took the decision to this effect.
Arrangements will be made to make audio-visual materials based on the pre-departure orientation training curriculum available in digital medium. The orientation training will also be completely based on online system. According to the Ministry, a campaign would be launched to include all the workers in the contribution-based social security fund and the minimum wage of the workers would be fully implemented.
The meeting also decided to make the labour call centre more systematic and effective, promote occupational health and safety through risk assessment in industrial establishments, create internal employment by promoting production and entrepreneurship and extend bilateral labour agreement with five more countries.
According to the Ministry, discussions were held on 100 agendas related to governance reforms approved by the meeting of the Council of Ministers on March 27. On the occasion, Minister Saha directed the subordinate employees to immediately prepare and implement an action plan on the issues related to the agenda approved by the government to make the labour and employment sector systematic, disciplined and safe and to protect the rights and interests of the workers.
Discussions were also held on the issues concerning the security of Nepalis in foreign employment, guarantee of minimum wages, workplace security, working environment and health security to prepare minimum standard for foreign employment.
Similarly, the Ministry has planned to make preparations to conduct skills fairs in collaboration with the private sector in all provinces, promote internal employment, make service delivery-friendly and take effective steps to control fraud in the name of foreign employment.
