Kavrepalanchok. Vehicular movement on the BP Highway has been halted for an indefinite period since this evening.

According to the Kavrepalanchowk District Police Office, Kavrepalanchowk, the vehicular movement along the highway has been halted due to the rise in the water level in the Roshi rivulet following heavy rainfall since 7.00 pm today.

Information Officer at the District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent Rabin Bista said the vehicular operation has been halted keeping in mind the possibility of flooding in the Roshi rivulet and the risk of flooding in the Roshi rivulet as well as in the southern part of the district including Panauti, Namobuddha, Katunje, Mangaltar, Taga, Kavrebhanjyang and other places in the district at present. Vehicles have been put on hold at Kavrebhanjyang of Dhulikhel and Nepalthok of Sindhuli.

Bista said that the transportation has been held and managed in coordination with the neighboring district Sindhuli. Police have urged the general public to travel only after knowing the condition of the highway and have appealed not to travel on the highway until further notice.

Earlier, the BP Highway was obstructed for two days following the flooded Roshi River following the rainfall on Friday evening. The Office had requested the passengers to travel considering the adverse weather as it was operating in a two-way manner at that time as well.

The highway has been obstructed for the past two days after the rain since Friday washed away a temporary road in the Roshi area. Friday’s flood had washed away diversions of around four kilometers from Chaukidanda to Nepalthok of Roshi area. According to the Road Division Office, Bhaktapur, the highway has been obstructed since Friday evening.

The Chaukidanda-Nepalthok road section was completely damaged by floods and landslides last year.
