Dang. A plan was prepared to construct 6 deep borewells under the Babai Lifting Drinking Water Project at Tulsipur of Dang.

As per the plan, deep boring was to be constructed at 6 places, including Golaura of Tulsipur, near Santa Nirankari Bhawan, premises of the office of the drinking water organization, near the current transport office, Indranagar and the former zonal police office.

The water did not come as planned. The deep-borewells in these places have been shifted to other places after two liters per second of water was not supplied from one borewell. Bhola Prasad Thapa, treasurer of Tulsipur Drinking Water Consumers and Sanitation Association, said that three deep borewells have been relocated in Paddha and two on the bank of Babai River.

“We need more than 10 liters per second,” he said, “But the borewells as designed will not bring up to two liters per second.” So we dug deep boring in the Paddha and Babai rivers. ”

Preparations are underway to bring water from there to Tulsipur in some time. After digging deep boring in Babai, the design has to be changed and water will have to be brought through pumping. He said that it may take about three ÷four months to purchase pumps for the same. More than 90 liters per second of water will be brought from there.

Water from Babai will be brought to Tulsipur through three conveletions. Other structures have already been prepared. Project Manager Harendra Bhatta said that the project is preparing to bring water from the three borewells within the New Year. It is preparing to bring 24 liters of water per second. The water will be supplied from a tank at Dumrigaun.

The work of expanding the drinking water pipes is almost in the final stage. The area has not been expanded only due to disputes by the locals. Apart from this, it has expanded in all areas. Rapid sand filters have been installed in Babai for water purification and multi-grade pressure filters in deep boring areas. RVT collection chamber of 500 cubic meters in Sitalpur, 300 cubic meters of intermediate RVT talkie near Santnirangari, 300 cubic meter of intermediate RVT near the Provincial Police Office, 500 cubic meter tank in Jhumre and 600 cubic meter tank in Dumrigaun.

A 450 cubic meter overhead tank has been constructed in Shikhar Koleni, 225 cubic meters in Motipur and 450 cubic meters in Indranagar. A 600 cubic meter underground tank has been constructed in Dumrigaun and 300 cubic meters underground tank has been constructed on the premises of the drinking water office. The transmission pipeline will be 28.315 kilometers and the water distribution pipeline will be 125.752 kilometers. Similarly, seven security guard houses and 10 pump houses have been constructed. The deadline for the project was extended till June, 2083 BS after the project was supposed to be completed a year ago.

There are more than 10,000 tap taps in Tulsipur so far. Now there is a shortage of water. There is a problem in getting water. Treasurer Thapa said that the problem would be solved if the water from Babai came to power due to this. Currently, there are eight gravel sources of Tulsipur drinking water including Mulkot, Ramri, Chisapani, Dhairani, Bakre, Chharchhare, Pahar and Lahurechaur.

Underground sources are found in the premises of Deep Boring, Dumrigaun, Rajoura, Airport, the premises of the erstwhile Zonal Police Office, Kharchawa, Jhumre, and Red Cross. There are Sumpwell sources in Ranijaruwa, Patukhola and Ranighat. The work of Babai Lifting has been started at a cost of Rs 568.024 crore. The drinking water project has been completed with 70 per cent grant from the Government of Nepal and 30 per cent investment from consumers.

Out of this, the government spends Rs 38.83 crore and the consumer Rs 17.07 crore. Currently, 5 percent of the work has been taken from the consumers and the remaining 25 percent from the Town Development Committee. The government has taken a loan of Rs 14.22 crore from the Town Development Committee and the remaining Rs 2.84 crore has been paid by the consumers.
