. Construction of the Pokhara-Muglin road project has been affected due to the removal of poles of the 11 KV dedicated electricity line at Pokhara International Airport. The construction of the service lane and footpath of the road has not been possible due to the removal of 29 poles from the electricity substation at Kundahar to the entrance of the airport.

Krishna Bahadur Kunwar, chief engineer of the road project, said that they have written to the airport office and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) time and again to remove the poles.TAG_OPEN_div_35 The airport has been using the electricity imported from Kundaharchowk through dedicated line by constructing its own structure.

Engineer Kunwar said that the NEA has informed that the electric poles cannot be removed until the airport office pays for the construction of the structure to install the electric wires underground.TAG_OPEN_div_33 Chief Engineer of Nepal Electricity Authority’s Pokhara-Bharatpur Distribution System Improvement Project, Ananda Subedi, said that although the structure has been prepared to install underground wires in the airport, the service cannot be resumed until the airport makes payment.

He said that the airport has to pay Rs 16.3 million to the authority.TAG_OPEN_div_31 “The underground service will start only after the cost of taking the dedicated line of the airport to the underground structure is paid to the NEA,” he said, “The electric poles will be removed once the underground system comes into operation. ”

The old structure of electricity is in operation at the airport as the underground line has not been started. CAAN engineer Subedi said that they only get assurance from the airport management that they will deposit the money. “Discussion on this issue was held with Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadka Raj Poudel in Pokhara on Saturday.

The authority has been insisting that the airport should pay the amount first, saying that there may be legal problems in operating the underground power line until the payment of the construction is received.TAG_OPEN_div_27 NEA has already constructed a structure to lay the wires underground at a distance of one kilometer from Kundaharchowk to the airport entryway. Kunwar, an engineer at the road project, said that they have urged the bodies concerned to remove the structures violating the standard along with electric poles, drinking water pipes and felled trees.

According to him, the construction of the western section of the road project (Pokhara-Jamune) is targeted to be completed within the current fiscal year.TAG_OPEN_div_25 The contract period for the construction of the road has been extended for the third time and has been extended till June 29. So far, 77.47 per cent physical progress and 62.20 per cent financial progress has been made.

The second TAG_OPEN_div_23 phase of blacktopping has been done on 37.28 km of the 38.71 km stretch so far. Engineer Kunwar informed that 17.66 kilometers of the total 36.32 kilometers service lane has been blacktopped so far.

The project has made 67 percent physical progress in the construction of the underground electric wires after the contract was awarded in January 2020.TAG_OPEN_div_21 As part of Nepal Electricity Authority’s Pokhara-Bharatpur Distribution System Improvement Project, underground electric wires are to be installed in major urban areas of Pokhara.

Engineer Subedi said that electricity has been distributed from the entrance of Pokhara International Airport to Seti Bridge at Prithvi Chowk by laying wires.TAG_OPEN_div_19 Currently, works are underway to lay wires from Srijana Chowk to City Hall, Prithvi Chowk, Zero Kilometer area and Jarebar area of Lakeside.
