Stresses on government support for electric vehicle transformation

Lalitpur. Experts have stressed on the effective implementation of the policy brought by the government to convert fuel-powered vehicles into electric vehicles to reduce the fuel problem created recently.

At a workshop on ‘Possibilities, Opportunities, and Challenges of EV Transformation in Nepal’, jointly organized by Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Pulchowk Campus, Thapathali Campus, and Kathmandu University here today, the speakers emphasized the importance of EV transformation.TAG_OPEN_div_14

The experts also spoke about covering the full spectrum of EV transformation, from vehicle imports to technical specifications and economic potential. The current status of research on electric vehicle conversion and the country’s preparations for the wider transition from internal combustion engines (ICE) were also discussed.TAG_OPEN_div_12

Speaking at the program, NAST Secretary Rabindra Dhakal pointed out the need to formulate policies, regulations and concrete criteria for EV transformation keeping in mind the economic and environmental aspects. Roshan Pandey, Chief of the Technical Faculty of NAST, said that for the implementation of the government’s policy, EV transformation, in its current form, should be economically alternative for the average Nepali consumer or operator.TAG_OPEN_div_10

On the occasion, a working paper was presented by experts on the growth of EV imports in Nepal and the outline of key policy guidelines shaping the sector. The technical aspects of retrofitting i.e. the process of converting ICE vehicles to electric powertrains, component selection, system sizing and comparative cost analysis were carried out. The event was attended by policy makers, automotive engineers, researchers and industry stakeholders.TAG_OPEN_div_8
