Kathmandu. The government has continued to evacuate the settlements on the banks of the Kathmandu Valley, in vulnerable areas and on public and government land.
In this connection, the settlement on the bank of the Bagmati River at Thapathali of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 11 has been evacuated today. The process of evacuating the settlements is underway at Gairigaun-Sinamangal of KMC Ward No. 9 and Shantinagar of Ward No. 31.
The Prime Minister’TAG_OPEN_div_37 s Secretariat is preparing to vacate the settlements constructed illegally at Gothatar Buddha Chowk of Kageshwori Manohara Municipality-8 and Manohara Tole of Ward No. 9 in Kathmandu.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA), there are 476 squatters in Shantinagar, 162 in Gairigaun, 143 in Thapathali, 77 in Gothatar and 13 in Manohara Tole.TAG_OPEN_div_34
A joint team of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force Nepal and Municipal Police of Kathmandu Metropolitan City cleared the illegal structures and vacated the area. It was the security team that helped to remove the belongings of the people living in those areas and take them elsewhere.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, 68 families living in Thapathali have come into contact with the government while the process of coming in contact with them from other places is continuing.TAG_OPEN_div_28
The families who came in contact have been taken to Dasharath Stadium, their details have been collected and arrangements have been made to stay in different places of Kathmandu. At present, household items are kept safely at Radha Swami Satsang Vyas in Sundarighat.
The work of identifying whether the families kept in temporary accommodation are genuine squatters will start from tomorrow. The families who have been certified as squatters during the verification will be kept in an ‘apartment’ in Nagarjun Municipality Ward No. 1 within two weeks. After that, the work of their long-term management will begin.
