Demolition of houses begins in Manohara squatters

Bhaktapur. The removal of unauthorised houses and huts has been started in the squatters’ settlement on the banks of Manohara River.

A total of 1,300 Nepal Police personnel and 600 Armed Police Force (APF) personnel deployed from Bhaktapur have been mobilized to demolish the structures, said Surya TAG_OPEN_div_15 Bahadur Khadka, Superintendent of Police (SP) at the District Police Range.

} According to him, the residents of the settlement were given time till 9:00 am after they said that they would demolish their houses on their own. After this, the demolition started after a team with a bulldozer from Kathmandu Metropolitan City arrived.

Superintendent of Police Khadka said, “Most of the houses here are being demolished after the goods were evacuated.”TAG_OPEN_div_11 ”

There are 777 houses in this settlement. Earlier on Saturday evening, seven big concrete houses were demolished here. Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were obstructed during this period. Some squatters attacked and 22 security personnel were injured.TAG_OPEN_div_9
