Kathmandu. Iran has called for an end to the war in the region and the release of frozen assets abroad.
“We have not asked for any concessions,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqai told AFP. We are only asking for Iran’s legitimate rights. ”
He said Iran’s demands include an end to the war in the region, an end to the US naval blockade, and “the release of the assets of the Iranian people that have been unjustly locked up in foreign banks for years”.
U.S. President Donald Trump has said he rejects Iran’s response to a U.S. offer to end the war.
“Tehran has warned European countries not to get involved in a crisis that benefits no one,” Bakai said, referring to the ongoing tensions in the Gulf.
“Any intervention in the Strait of Hormuz will only complicate the situation,” he said. ”
Britain and France are leading efforts to form an international coalition to secure the Strait of Hormuz, but this will only happen after a peace deal between the US and Iran.
On Friday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio ended a two-day visit to Rome urging Europeans to help secure major waterways.
Satellite images showed oil droplets strewn off the coast of Iran’s Kharg island after Baqai denied claims of an alleged oil spill in the Gulf.
“The claims made about the oil spill and similar issues are completely fabricated,” he said. ”
He blamed the US presence for all the problems in the Gulf, adding that Tehran is “very concerned about environmental damage” in the Gulf. ”
